A Sweet Gift for Mom

Friday, March 30th, 2012

I’ve always loved chocolates. I’ve also been known to be addicted to strawberries. But I’ve never had the pleasure of eating chocolate coated strawberries until very recently. And I must say that they were absolutely delicious. Now, as I’m thinking about getting me more of those yummy treats, I realized that this would be a great gift for mom. She loves chocolates and strawberries just like me. It would be a perfect Mother’s Day gift for a sweet mom. And I’m sure that these lovely treats would be perfect gifts for a mom who has a chocolate weakness.

Why do these fancy treats make a great gift for mom?

First off, the treats I’m talking about are called Gourmet Dipped Fancy Strawberries sold by Shari’s Berries. And these are no ordinary chocolate covered goodies. There are 12 fresh and juicy strawberries in one order. That alone makes it a great gift for mom. I mean, you can’t always have fresh strawberries as sweet as these. 4 of the strawberries are dipped in milk chocolate with chopped almonds. Even if you don’t particularly like milk chocolate, the fact that there IS chocolate makes these babies one of the best gifts for a mom who’s a chocoholic (that’s me!). My favorite was the 4 dipped in dark chocolate with dark chocolate chips. Divine. The last 4 berries are dipped in white chocolate with dark swizzles. Just writing about them now makes my mouth water.

Sweets for a Sweet Mom

Any mom would love these treats on her birthday or for Christmas. These would also be a perfect Mother’s Day gift if you happen to find yourself unable to think of anything else to give your mom. I know what I’ll be giving as a gift for mom… and myself :) after all, I happen to think I’m also a sweet mom.

The Busy Mom’s Cookbook

Sunday, March 11th, 2012

Moms are always busy doing lots of things. They take care of the family, they do the household chores, and some even work in an office. If you find yourself too busy to cook or know a mother who is looking for easy-to-make meals, then Rachel Ray’s Express Lane Meals is the perfect gift for you or that person you know.

This is literally the busy mom’s cookbook for several reasons. The first one is that Rachel Ray gives you a must-have list for your pantry. She suggests that you do your shopping with her list to make sure that most of the ingredients in her book are things that you will have stocked. And she also tells you what ingredients can be bought through the express lane on the way home. If you’re a busy mom like me, you likely do not have that much time to keep running out of the house just because you don’t have one of the main ingredients you need to cook your meal.

I also call this the busy mom’s cookbook because it really does have recipes for busy moms which result in easy-to-make meals! There are 3 categories in the book: Meals for the Exhausted, Meals for the Not Too Tired, and Bring it On. The first category has recipes for moms who come home from work literally dragging their feet and don’t have much energy to slave over the stove. The second one contains recipes for moms who can handle slightly more challenging fares while the last one may require you to juggle two pans or more while cooking. With these kinds of categories, you can easily find a yummy recipe that will suit your current mood.

Another thing I love about Rachel Ray’s cookbook is that they really are quick meals to make. While those who are not too savvy in the kitchen may not be able to do it in 30 minutes but they wouldn’t take more than 40-50 minutes to make. Also, the directions are simple and very detailed. Instead of stating “a cup of this” and “a tablespoon of that”, Rachel Ray tells you to use 2 celery stalks. The recipes for busy moms usually contain a main dish, rice or a side dish of potato, and a vegetable. With her detailed instructions, she walks you through on where to start first, what to do while one of the dishes is cooking, etc.

A busy mom’s cookbook should really save you time and effort which is something that this cookbook does. But what makes it even better is that the recipes are also easy on the budget. The ingredients that you need are fairly affordable PLUS the portions are huge so you always have leftovers for some other day.

Now, I know that not everyone is a fan of Rachel Ray. And you don’t have to be to love this book. If you’re a busy mom, then this is the busy mom’s cookbook for you.

Gifts for Expecting Mothers

The usual gifts for expecting mothers are baby clothes, toys, baby bottles, and other baby stuff that we usually think they’ll need once the baby comes. And those are all great. I got a lot of those when I was pregnant and I really appreciated them because they lessened the amount of stuff that I needed to buy. But recently, I found this really great product that I believe any expecting mother should have: the Baby Bargains book. And let me tell you why…

Every new parent will tell you that having a baby is very costly. It will burn money right through your pockets. And this very high cost can be extremely stressful, especially for parents who are just starting out. But with this Baby Bargains book, this high cost can be lowered to a much more reasonable amount. Well, slightly reasonable at least and it won’t have you staying awake at night just dreading how you’ll pay for all the things that your baby will need.

What the Baby Bargains book can do:

This book is the best guide for expecting mothers when it comes to finding out what items they really need and what they can forgo until much later. It tells you what the cheap baby stuff are and where you can buy them. And the cheap baby stuff that the book recommends isn’t a collection of products that are of extremely low quality. You’ll definitely get good value for your money without worrying over your baby’s safety or the need to buy a new one again later on. The Baby Bargains book also has a great deal of baby product reviews which, let me just say, I could have really benefited from had I read this book before I had my baby girl. These reviews will tell you which products are poorly made, not child-safe, and even about the history of the manufacturers.

In addition to telling you a great deal about how to be cost-efficient and giving out baby product reviews, you’ll also get a handful of advice about child-proofing your home and some rules on buying stuff. I must say, the Baby Bargains book is really something that any expecting mother would benefit from. So go buy one for all the expecting mothers you know.

Gift Ideas for Mom

Sometimes, finding gifts for mothers can be hard. There are lots of different gift ideas for mom out there to choose from including spa packages, home-cooked meals, and a cleaned house. But as a new parent, I’ve found that one of the best gifts I ever received was a book full of parenting tips. Having a baby around takes up a lot of your time, money, and to be honest, your sanity. But with some really handy parenting tips, you can get through all those difficulties and enjoy having a baby around more. Mama’s Big Book of Little Lifesavers by Kerry Colburn is definitely one of the best gifts for moms (and even dads) out there.

Why is it a great gift for mom?

While there are plenty of parenting books that you can buy, this book is really a great gift for any parent because all the tips for saving time, money, and sanity are here in one book. And they don’t come from just one person. The author not only presents her parenting tips but also those from other veteran parents that have survived the challenging times of raising kids. Their hard-won techniques all incorporated in one book makes it one of the best parenting books ever.

While advice for parents is normally thrown at you from every direction, it is generally about feeding, potty training, and discipline. But with Mama’s book, you also get some parenting tips that just help smoothen out your day. Things like saving time going to the bedroom for a nappy change or using baskets to transport things like blankets, diapers, and toys up and down 2 floors are stuff you rarely get from other parenting books. And following these tips have definitely helped me save some time and sanity. As a new parent, I was sometimes faced with the questions ‘which one should I do first?’ and ‘how in the *** am I going to carry all those plus the baby up the stairs?’ Kerry’s parenting tips were definitely lifesavers for me, keeping me sane day after day.

One of the best things I found about this book was that it was really easy to read. It’s basically just a list of what to do and how to do to it. There are no long paragraphs that I really did not have time to read with my hectic schedule. The tips are arranged according to time, money, and sanity as well as a quick help guide if you don’t have time to browse through the tips, looking for the ones you need.

This great book is full of advice for parents old and new, something any mom would surely appreciate and love.

Best Gift For A Mother

Friday, December 30th, 2011

For a new mother, I’ve found that one of the best things you can give is a book that tells all about the hardships of motherhood and what they can expect. And while there are plenty of great books for moms out there, I’ve found one that really is the best gift for a mother who wants to know more about the deal with parenting. It’s The Parent Trip by Jenna McCarthy. Yes, this funny, extremely talented woman has written a tell-all book about becoming pregnant and the perils of parenthood. And I say it’s the best gift for a mother at any point in her life. Most especially for a new mother who still has no idea what to expect. So if you’re thinking looking around for gift ideas for a mother, you might want to put this at the top of your list.

Why is this “the best gift for a mother”?

I have decided to dub this book as such because it really is that good. I mean, Jenna McCarthy does not pull her punches. You get to read all about how difficult pregnancy can be, how hard parenting is, and even just choosing a sitter for your kids can be a challenge. And she is able to write it in such a hilarious way that you’ll enjoy reading the book while you learn! She’s brutally honest but still witty and full of wisdom that any mother who reads her book will just keep laughing while nodding her head in recognition and agreement.

When I read this book, I couldn’t put it down. It was that greatly written. I laughed so hard at her wit but was still able to relate on how difficult it was transitioning from a single person to a mom. I found myself thinking that I wasn’t alone in having doubts about parenting and thinking “Yes! Exactly!” when she discussed how she suddenly saw all the “dangers” in the world as soon as she left the hospital with her newly born baby.

What I really loved about this book is that it’s different from all the great books for moms that I’ve read. While it definitely holds nothing back in terms of the difficulty of parenting, it teaches you how to handle different situations with tips while you enjoy yourself. For a new mother, you’ll get to see what warrants a trip to the doctor and what doesn’t, what every nursing mother needs to know, and whole lots more.

This really is the best gift for a mother at any point in her motherhood. You’ll learn, you’ll laugh, and you’ll cry. Best of all, you’ll love the fact that you’re a mom. Gift ideas for a mother? The Parent Trip is the only gift you’ll need.

Office Yoga Book Review

Stressed Out Moms

Mothers are the most stressed out people on earth. Take it from me, I know. They juggle work, the home, and the children in their daily life. So, it’s important that they find the time to relax or find a way to deal with all the stress. One of the surefire ways to do that is to do some yoga stretches, calming the mind and soothing the soul. However, most mothers can’t even find the time to do that. So the best gift that you can give any working mother (and even those who don’t) is a book teaching them how to do some office yoga. And I found the best book about yoga in the office.

Office Yoga: Simple Stretches for Busy People

Now, one might think of yoga in the office as something impossible. How can one do any kind of yoga stretches in such a confined and busy place? Well, this book definitely tells you how. It contains yoga poses that can be done while sitting at your desk such as “At-The-Desk-Relaxation” and “Keyboard Calisthenics.” The easy stretches can also be done standing up but without having to worry about any embarrassing comments from co-workers.

Another great thing that I liked about this book is that when it says easy stretches, they really are easy. I’m no yoga expert. In fact, I’ve never done a yoga class in my life! But I found the instructions really easy to follow and I didn’t end up straining a muscle or two trying to do any of them. There are positive quotes as well that make it a light, entertaining read and adds to relieving your stress.

I also loved the funny illustrations in this Office Yoga book. It makes light of all the things you normally find stressful in your workday. There are also a lot of helpful hints on how to deal with traffic and possible road rage. It even has advice on how you can read through tons of email!

Any mom will love it

The Office Yoga is a book that’s handy and can be carried anywhere. Moms can choose to do any of the exercises at any point in time during their workday. It will even help them relax when they get home from work and are faced with chores and the kids. A great gift for any occasion.

A Letter Book For Mom

What to Buy My Mom for her Birthday

Mothers are the best people we know. And all mothers deserve a birthday present that’s not your average, pick-it-up-at-the-mall gift. So each year, we ask ourselves “what to buy my mom for her birthday?” And I believe I’ve just found the most creative, unique, and personalized birthday present that you can give your mom this year. The best birthday gift idea I have ever come across is a letter book for mom from Treasured Passages.

A Special Book for Mom & You

While looking for a great birthday gift idea, I came across this Mother & Daughter Letter Book from Treasured Passages. It’s not your run-of-the-mill letter book. This unique book for mom is a great gift simply because there are so many possibilities that are opened up by this book. It’s partly a journal where you can write down memories that you’d like to share with your mom and she with you. It’s also partly like having a compilation of greeting cards or short notes that you send to each other further enriching your relationship. This letter book for mom & you is also a great way to learn new things about each other. There are cards that will prompt you to share some information that you’d never have thought of asking your mother. I especially like the questions about wildest dreams and first kisses ;)

And while the journal plus greeting card function is already great, I love the fact that you can decorate the book with pictures and other mementos that you want to put in the book. You can unleash your creativity and have a lot of fun decorating the book with your mother. The experiences that you get from this letter book are simply amazing and something that you will truly treasure.

One Last Thing

While all of these things that I just described makes this letter book for mom really one of the best gifts ever, I especially like the fact that we can pass down this book to future generations like my own daughter. It will be a unique and memorable way for her to get to know me and my own mother.
