Best Fudge Brownie

While there are plenty of the usual gifts for mothers like bath salts and printable coupons, every once in a while freshly baked goodies just hit the right spot. And one of the best homemade gifts you can give her is rocky road fudge. This is the best fudge brownie I have ever tasted and any chocoholic mothers out there will absolutely love getting this gift. It even has a simple fudge recipe that anyone can easily follow.

Fudge Ingredients:

50ml Baileys Irish Cream Liqueur
200g chopped dark chocolate
20g butter, unsalted
1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
50g chopped unsalted pistachio kernels
75g crushed shortbread biscuits
200g small-sized marshmallows
150g chopped white chocolate

Making Rocky Road Fudge:

Get an 8cmx20cm bar pan and grease it. Place baking paper inside with some overhanging. Put the dark chocolate, butter, milk, and Baileys in a bowl that’s heatproof and place the bowl over a pan of water that’s simmering. Make sure the bowl doesn’t touch the water. Once the ingredients melt, gently stir them together until the mixture becomes smooth. Take the bowl out of the pan and let the mixture cool down a bit. Put in the nuts, marshmallow, and 2/3 of the white chocolate in the bowl and stir them together. Spread the mixture into the pan and leave it in the refrigerator for 2-3 hours until it becomes firm. Melt the remaining white chocolate similarly and pour it over the fudge. Let is set for 3-4 minutes then cut the fudge into squares.

This Rocky Road fudge will need to be placed in a container that’s airtight and consumed within a week. The simple fudge recipe can create 12 slices of chocolatey goodness for any mother to enjoy. To add to the gift, you can give the recipe of the rocky road fudge printed on some fancy paper so the recipient can make the brownies anytime she needs a chocolatey fix. She can even change some of the fudge ingredients to make the fudge more to her liking!

Top 5 Worst Gifts for Mom

Friday, December 30th, 2011

It’s always hard to think of gifts for mom. While there are plenty of ideas everywhere on gifts for her, what you might not know is that some of those gifts that stores promote are actually the worsts gifts for mom. Here’s a list of the worst mother’s day gifts or even birthday gifts that you can give your mom and why they should be written off your gift idea list:

• Household appliances – while you may have heard your mother complaining about how her vacuum cleaner isn’t working anymore, it doesn’t mean that it would be a great gift for her. Giving her a household appliance will only remind her of all the housework that she needs to do or that she’s already done. Instead, you may want to do her chores and give her a bit of rest and relaxation as a gift.

• World’s Best Mom – gifts such as mugs, cards, and t-shirts that have these 3 words printed on them actually make the worst mother’s day gifts. While the thought is definitely appreciated, giving your mom something like this only shows her how little thought you put in to buying her a gift. Try putting a little more effort whenever you buy gifts for mom. After all, she’s put a lot of effort in raising you, right?

• Little Coupon Books – coupons promising the receiver a “free carwash” or “cooked dinner” from the giver are the worst gifts to give anyone for any occasion. A lot of these coupon books can be found in cutesy novelty stores. These will probably never be used, tucked away in a drawer and forgotten. And they will also tell your mother that you didn’t bother even thinking about what to give her.

• Spanx – while most women would love to wear Spanx because it can make their figures sexier and more flattering, they really wouldn’t love to get one as a gift. It’s almost like you’re saying they’re fat. And you wouldn’t want to be the son or daughter who does that.

• Kitchen stuff – things for the kitchen are really practical gifts for mom, I’m sure. But they actually aren’t great gifts because they only serve to remind your mother of how much she slaves away in front of the stove all day, every day.

• Lingerie – let’s face it. Giving your mom sexy underwear or sleepwear can be creepy. It’s only a great gift if you were married to her. So don’t even go there.

We love chocolate

All mothers love chocolate and it’s something that certainly soothes our souls. It certainly makes me feel good to drink some hot chocolate whenever it’s cold outside. And if you want to make a gift for mom this Christmas, one of the best things you can give her is homemade hot chocolate in a jar. Homemade gifts for mom are always a winner and most times, they turn out to be the best gifts for mom. So for any of you who are looking for a way to create this simple, hot chocolate in a jar, here’s how:

Making Hot Chocolate in a Jar:

To make a gift for mom like this, you’ll need a nice, clean jar, some hot cocoa mix, little marshmallows, a Hershey kiss candy, a candy cane, a cute scrap of fabric about 4 inches or larger, a nice ribbon, some craft glue, and a pair of scissors.

Put the hot cocoa mix in the jar and add the marshmallows until you fill the whole jar. Place the cover on the jar and close it tightly. Cut the cloth into a circle that’s 4-inches in width. Then get a piece of ribbon that’s around 12 inches in length. Place the cloth on top of the jar and tie the ribbon around the edge of the lid. Tie the candy cane on the ribbon before making a bow with it. Glue the Hershey kiss candy on the center of the cloth.

To make it the best gift for mom, add a little note telling her to drink the hot cocoa whenever she feels stressed or tired and just wants to relax. Add some instructions telling her to put the Hershey kiss in her hot chocolate and to stir it with the candy cane.

A hot chocolate in a jar is simple and easy to make. It wouldn’t even cost a lot of money. But all moms love to get gifts that are made from the heart rather than store-bought. How to Choose a Gift for Mom

Thursday, November 24th, 2011

Moms are pretty special people and I’m not saying that because I’m also a mom. I feel that way because all the mothers I’ve met are able to balance a marriage, children, the home, and even a career. Not even the most intelligent or richest man can do that.

Since we all agree that our moms are great people, they deserve great gifts. And to show our appreciation and love, we want the best gift for mom. But choosing a gift for mom is not as simple as picking up something at your local mall. Finding the perfect gift for mom requires some time and dedication. Here are some guidelines to help you choose a gift for mom.

Choosing the best gift for mom:

To get great gift ideas for mom, you should look at your mom’s personality and lifestyle. Knowing what she likes to do on her free time and the things that she seems to love or collect around the home will help you find that perfect gift for mom. You can also try finding out if there are new things that she wants to try or any items that are on her wish list to give you more gift ideas for mom.

Another way to help you choose a gift for mom is to find out the things she dislikes. It saves time to rule out the unwanted gifts. If she dislikes cooking, don’t look at cookware or recipe books as gift ideas. You can also think back on all the previous gifts that she’s received. Are there any gifts that she never really used? I know my mother even rewraps some of hers to give to someone else. Knowing what others have given her will give you a better idea of gifts to avoid.

One other way to find a gift for mom is to look at the things she loves buying for herself. You’ll get a lot of gift ideas for mom by just going window shopping with her. Look at the stuff she looks at wistfully. Or listen to her gift ideas for other people. Usually, people give gifts to others that they themselves think are really great. You may find that the perfect gift for mom is actually the same gift that she is giving your aunt or your grandma.

When all is said and done

Whatever gift you do end up choosing to give your mom, remember this: moms are pretty easy to please and will love anything you give her. She’ll cherish it even more knowing you spent time and effort to find her the perfect gift.
