Get This Unique Gift for Mom

Sunday, April 8th, 2012

Over the years, you probably have thought of dozens of cool gifts for mom. But just recently, a new product was released in the market that may possibly just be the coolest gift for mom, or any man or woman for that matter. 2D Cartoon Bags. This is a really great (maybe even the greatest) gift idea for mom fit for any occasion. And I’ll tell you why.

The Most Unique Gift for Mom EVER

We’ve all seen or read a comic at least once in our lives. But have you ever seen something straight out of a comic in real life? These 2D cartoon bags, simply put, are cool gifts for mom because not only do they trick your eyes into thinking you’re looking at a cartoon cardboard of a bag, they’re extremely fashionable to boot!

These really ultra-cool bags are made in Taiwan by Jump for Paper, which has made quite a leap in the fashion trends this past month. While looking at them may cause you to think that they’re just cardboard pieces, the bags are actually made from polyester. This makes them really easy to clean as you can (or your mom can) just wipe out any dirt from it with a damp cloth. This makes it the perfect gift for mom as she probably doesn’t have much time to wash it. And even while your eyes might be telling your brain that the bag can offer little room for all the things that moms carry around, the interior is really quite roomy. It can even fit a laptop! The manufacturers even added a zipper at the bottom to enable people to expand the bag if they need more room.

If you still don’t think that this is a great gift idea for mom, take a look at the picture below. The bags are really colorful and will definitely stand out in the crowd. And just think of the fun you’ll have carrying them around? And your mom would too, I bet.

‘Nuff Said

If you still aren’t convinced that this could possibly be the best gift for mom ever, then maybe it just isn’t your thing. But if you are, then you better get one fast. After all, it wouldn’t be unique if everyone already has it.

Top 5 Books for Moms

Sunday, April 8th, 2012

Finding the best gifts for moms, whether she’s your own mother, a relative, or even just a friend, can sometimes be a daunting task. There are plenty of ideas to be found online on the best gifts for Mother’s Day, her birthday, and even Christmas. And one excellent gift idea I’ve found is a book. There are numerous books for moms in the market. And most of them can undoubtedly be the best gifts for moms who love to read. But since there are also moms who don’t, I want this list to be the best books to read for any kind of mother. And here are the best books for moms of any kind, in my opinion.

My Top Picks:

Sippy Cups are Not for Chardonnay

This is a great book for new moms, old moms, and even soon-to-be moms. Stephanie Wilder-Taylor talks about the challenges of motherhood, encouraging all mothers that they can conquer motherhood no matter what anyone says. This is, for me, one of the best books to read especially if you find yourself questioning your ability to be a good mom.

Box of Mixed Chocolates

This is one of the best books for moms who love poetry. The poems will most certainly touch anyone’s heart as it deals with all aspects of life and love with humor, sadness, and caring.

God’s Promises for Mothers

All mothers will feel despair, frustration, and anger when it comes to dealing with their kids at numerous points in their lives. Reading this book will give them the encouragement and hope that they need to get through each day.

Love You Forever

A rather touching book that is great for moms as well as kids. It illustrates the love a mother has for her child and will definitely remind any mom not only of how much she loves her baby but how much her own mother loves her.

Words That Matter

Everyone needs to have words to live by and learn from, even moms. This little book is a fountain of uplifting quotes about the different aspects of life that any mom will enjoy.

These books for moms will definitely be gifts that they would treasure. Not only will they be able to relate to them, they’ll also end up learning, laughing, and feeling encouraged throughout the different phases of motherhood.

Top 5 Baby Shower Presents

Friday, March 30th, 2012

A lot of my friends have been giving birth these past few months so I’ve been to several baby showers. Of course, going to one or more of these events means buying a lot of baby shower presents. And as a new mother myself, I have a pretty good idea of what would be the best baby shower gifts for mothers-to-be. And some of them are pretty unique baby gifts too.

Lotus Kimono Tunic and Pants – these I found to be really great for women who are pregnant or even after giving birth. The cloth is super soft and the shirt and pants are really comfortable to wear. Mothers often don’t feel sexy before or after giving birth and these will definitely make them feel beautiful. It has trimmed lace and a flat elastic waist that won’t make you feel fat at all.

Baby sling – I absolutely love this and any new mom will too. It’s easy to use and comfortable to wear. You don’t need to have too many straps on when carrying your baby and you’re assured that your baby is comfortable too. Plus, your arms will never get tired while you go about town with your baby because he’ll be comfy sleeping in the sling or watching the world go by.

My Very First Library by Eric Carle – babies can’t have enough books in my opinion and this set is one of the unique baby gifts in my opinion. Not only do you get 4 books by Eric Carle, you also get a game too.

Nursing dress Cora – one of the best baby shower gifts that I ever got. It’s a semi-sexy dress for moms who just gave birth which is also easy to wear when breastfeeding. The fit is right under the bustline so you won’t have to worry about your big tummy showing when you’re out in public.

Star Wars Lightsaber inspired baby rattle – one of the best unique baby gifts I’ve ever seen. If your friend is kinda geeky or just happens to love science fiction, these will make her laugh with delight. The rattles are really cute and ultra-soft so you don’t have to worry about baby hurting herself when she plays with it.

Meals for Moms: That Perfect Gift for Mom

Thursday, March 29th, 2012

The market is inundated with lots of gift ideas for mom. And I must admit, a lot of them turned out to be great gifts for mom. I’ve used a couple of those ideas several times a year. There are personalized gift baskets, scrapbooks, jewelry, and flowers to name a few. And I’ve done them all. If you’ve read my very first post here, you’d know that I’ve often said that my mom was the hardest person to give a gift to. I’ve been on an endless search for the perfect gift for mom. I’ve bought jewelry, handbags, and yes, flowers all in my vain search for that perfect gift for mom. It’s not that my mother is very hard to please, mind you. She is so easy to please actually. Just the fact that you gave her a gift is a big deal. But often times, she doesn’t have a use for such gifts as she has a very eclectic taste. And so, I’ve always wanted to give her something that would literally WOW her. And I think I have found it.

The perfect gift for mom is…

Searching online led me to a website called Meals for Moms. It’s a charity founded by the Meals on Wheels Association of America. What it does is it gathers funds so that MOWAA is able to give homebound moms meals every Mother’s Day. When I found this site, I immediately thought of my grandmother and my mother. They love to cook for people, be it family, friends, or even strangers. My mom’s meals are legendary among the people we know as she is one great cook, I kid you not. And then I thought how I would feel if my mom or grandmother, who spends a lot of time feeding other people, were like those homebound moms. That thought literally brought tears to my eyes. And then it hit me, THIS would be the perfect gift for mom! Among all the gift ideas for mom that I’ve found, this is going to be the one I knew that will touch her the most.

So this Mother’s Day

While I’m sure that you’ve bought great gifts for mom throughout the years, maybe you should think about something less tangible but no less important. If one of those homebound moms was your mom, wouldn’t you want to have someone help feed her too?

What Moms Really Want as a Gift for Mother’s Day

Sunday, March 11th, 2012

May is coming around the corner faster than you think. And it’s never too early to find a gift for Mother’s Day. Many of us often just get flowers for Mother’s Day which is totally fine. I personally love flowers. But let’s face it. It’s mom’s day so your gift should be extra special, not just something you can give on any occasion. Now, there are also tons of other Mother’s Day gifts like perfume, bags, and jewelry but they’re often given as gifts by other people and of course, you want to stand out. So the best gift for Mother’s Day, in my opinion, is actually just one thing: time to relax.

Why Do We Really Want This Gift for Mother’s Day?

As a mother who works at home, I often find myself so busy with doing chores, taking care of the baby, and earning my keep all within a 24-hour day. Of course, let us not forget making sure that I also have quality time with my spouse. I have seen my own mother and aunts dealing with the same thing. And most times, their kids (yes, even me) just buy them flowers for Mother’s Day just so we don’t look like we forgot. But when I became a mother, I realized how precious time for relaxation was. With so many things to do and on my mind, I found myself always wishing that time would just standstill for a couple of minutes so I can relax, take a breather, and do something I enjoy.

Perfume, bags, and other Mother’s Day gifts are all well and good. But I really can’t find myself enjoying these kinds of gifts immensely if I found myself so stressed out every single day. Most people who work enjoy weekends off but moms rarely, if ever, have ANY time off. And having quality alone time is actually something most, if not all, mothers wish for. Getting time to just be myself, not a mother or a wife, is actually the best gift for Mother’s Day that I can ever want. And your mother feels the same way too. So if you’re thinking about what to give your mother on this special occasion, make it a true mom’s day and give her time to relax. After all, even moms should get a day off.

Gifts for the In-Laws

Let’s face it. Finding the perfect gifts for the in-laws can be such a trying endeavor. It’s hardly surprising that many of us married people feel so stressed out whenever gift-giving holidays or birthdays come up. Particularly when it comes to finding the perfect gift for HER. I mean, I love my mother-in-law and all that but buying her a gift can really take a toll on me. That is until I found this really fun (and funny list) of the best gifts for Mother-In-Laws.

Perfect gift ideas for your MIL:

The Book of General Ignorance: Everything You Think You Know Is Wrong – this is really the best gifts for mother-in-laws who think they know everything. She might find herself too caught up fighting with the ideas in the book to annoy you ;)

Any gift wrapped in a shopping bag from a high-end store – the perfect gift for her if she is very conscious about brands. You don’t have to actually buy something from the store, just get a bag from it and put your gift in the bag. She won’t know the difference!

Jesus Bandages – this is the perfect gift idea for MILs who are seriously devoted to their religion. Not only are they useful, she will have no hesitations in sporting one of these.

The Complete Manual of Things That Might Kill You: A Guide to Self-Diagnosis for Hypochondriacs by Knock Knock Books – the best gifts for mother-in-laws who are always feeling sick or poorly are books that can help them find out exactly what is wrong with them. To top it off, you wouldn’t have to listen to her guess or ask you about it since she already has the book!

One year magazine subscription – everyone has a favorite magazine, whether it’s a gossip rag or Good Housekeeping. For those who truly want to get the best gifts for mother-in-laws, you might want to consider this.

Personalized photo gifts – MILs always love pictures of their grandkids. And this would be the perfect gift to remind her why she tolerates you so much ;) A mug, throws, or a quilt made up of pictures of your kids will surely please her to no end.

Some of these best gifts for mother-in-laws are really funny and may not be suitable for YOUR MIL. But if she has a great sense of humor, you may want to try one of them just for laughs ;)

7 Ways to Give Yourself a Mother’s Day Treat

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

Every year, mothers all over the world get mother’s day gifts from their husbands and children. Sometimes, we even celebrate mother’s day by having our husbands treat us to a love family dinner out. But have you ever thought of giving yourself some mother’s day gifts? Well, I certainly have. And here are some of my ideas on how to make this mom’s day truly a memorable day.

Sexy underwear – one of my (and my husband’s) favourite mother’s day treats is to buy sexy underwear to make myself feel young and less stressed.

Staying in bed with a bowl of ice cream and my fave show – it really is a mom’s day when I get to stay in bed, forget about work and chores, and just drown myself with strawberry ice cream while watching Castle. Just pick your sweet and your show then you’re ready to go!

Reading a book while sipping a cappuccino – one of the things I miss is having time to read my favourite novels in my favourite coffee shop. To celebrate mother’s day, grab your book, visit your local café, and step into another world where worries are far away.

Have a cocktail – when I became a mom, I forgot all about the joys of cocktails. I rarely had the time to enjoy one. Having a cocktail or two on mother’s day, I’ve found, is a great way to celebrate the joy of motherhood ;)

Get your beauty fix – because we’re so busy everyday dealing with so many things, we rarely find the time to get our hair done and our nails painted. So a visit to the salon is a great mother’s day treat.

Bubble bath – this, for me, is the ultimate mother’s day treat. Every day, I make do with a rushed shower because I always lack for time. A bubble bath with a little bit of wine really does wonders for you.

Buy something for yourself – as moms, we always put our family’s needs and wants first. I rarely find myself buying something that I really want to have. So buying some little trinket or accessory for yourself would be the perfect mother’s day treat.

Top 7 Christmas Gifts for a Mother Who Works

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

It’s always hard to find the perfect Christmas gift for someone. And one of the most difficult is finding Christmas gifts for mom that she would not only appreciate but love as well. Moms come in many shapes and forms, one of which is the working mother. And since I am one, I decided to make a list of the top 7 Christmas gifts for a mother who works.

My top 7 picks:

A modern espresso machine – let’s face it. This is the perfect Christmas gift for working mothers. This will even make a great gift for a mother who stays at home. No need to line up at Starbucks for her daily caffeine pick-me-up.

A stylish organizer – working moms are always busy trying to fit everything on a schedule. Meeting with colleagues, parent-teacher consults, and taking her kids to practice are all part of her busy week and having an organizer will help her keep track of what happens when. Of course, it has to be stylish to be the perfect gift for a mother.

On the go coffee mug – because working moms are always on the go, it’s essential for them to have their coffee at hand anytime, anywhere. A personalized, on the go coffee mug would make a great holiday gift for mom.

Fashionable flats – working mothers need really comfortable shoes to help carry them throughout any busy day. Flats are the greatest (for me, at least) and they definitely have to be fashionable. Mothers are still women after all.

A stylish briefcase, workbag, or tote – bags are always great gifts for a mother. We have so much stuff to carry around with us that bags are a godsend.

Fashionable trench coat – it’s sometimes hard to be fashionable when you’re in a hurry. With baby food on your blouse, messed up hair, and possibly even a bit of pasta sauce on your skirt, sometimes you need something stylish to cover things up and make you feel right. I personally love trench coats so that’s my pick :)

A massaging foot spa – I absolutely love this and so will any working mother. This holiday gift for mom is a great way for her to relax and get rid of all the stress.

So, this is my list of Christmas gifts for moms who work. Maybe you’ll find something here for your working mom. Or, maybe even something you’d like for yourself.

Top 5 Christmas Gifts for New Moms

Thursday, December 1st, 2011

New Moms Are…

New mothers are often swamped with taking care of the baby that they have little time to relax and pamper themselves. I remember that I didn’t even have time to get a simple haircut back then. Since the holidays are fast approaching, you might be wondering what would be the best Christmas gifts for new moms. As a new mother, I’ve compiled some of the things that I believe would be unique Christmas gifts that any new mother would appreciate.

My Best-Gifts-for-New-Moms List

Dinner and a Movie – new mothers rarely have time to go out and have a bit of fun without taking care of the baby. Having a quiet dinner and taking in a movie without the baby would really be a unique Christmas gift that any new mother would love to get.

A “Pamper Me” Basket – new moms rarely have time to pamper themselves so one of the best Christmas gifts that you can give them is a basket full of goodies that they can use to make them feel ‘normal’ and ‘beautiful.’ Bubble bath, bath salts, candles, and maybe even fuzzy slippers in a basket will make an exceptional gift for new moms.

Gift Cards for 12 months – a great gift for new moms is a compilation of gift cards for many things like restaurants, salon treatment, and even housecleaning services. Place one type of gift card in one envelope for her to open each month of the year. Opening each envelope will be a delightful surprise and the gift cards don’t have to be a large amount of money.

Mommy Tags – I really love these customized jewelry. You have tags where your baby’s name and birthday are etched in a stylish fashion. This is sure to be a hit with any new mom.

Purse/Bag – new moms are always carrying those diaper bags wherever they go. And while these can be cute, any new mother will miss carrying around a stylish bag. A great gift for new moms then would be a fashionable bag that can double as a baby bag without the obvious style of one. Having a trendy bag (though filled with bottles and diapers) to lug around really is one of the best gifts for new moms. Trust me, I know.
